Talk by John Lonergan, October 2014
The Parents Association were delighted to offer an evening talk by Mr John Lonergan – former governor of Mount Joy to speak to the whole school parent body on 21st October on parenting issues and engaging with our teenagers! This talk was very well attended and reinforced what was covered on the Parent Plus Programme.
PARENT-PLUS PROGRAMME, October 2014
A very successful parenting course for 1st year parents was run by the PA in October. This four week parenting course took place on Wednesday evenings from 7.30-9.30. It was delivered by a trained facilitator Bridget Smith and along with PA representatives Joanne Owens and Barbara Carroll. This Parenting Programme draws on well researched ideas on parent-child communication, relationship building and behaviour management.
All of the parents found the course very beneficial and really enjoyed the support gained from other parents. Some of their views on the course included “great ideas on what to expect from teenagers and how to deal with conflict”, “very open about personal stuff which was encouraging, “importance of pressing calm button and keeping calm, “like to repeat course again in a few years”.
