Thursday’s Sports Day was an excellent day with a variety of events such as zumba, a wellie toss, a 3km sponsored run and old classics such as the three-legged race and rounders. Class Deborah, 6th year, won Sports Class of the Year.
1st year history class Christines received a visit from John Harrison, local archaeologist. They learned about the work of an archaeologist and about continuity and development throughout history. John provided many artefacts for the girls to explore, including a Norman crossbow, Stone age tools dating back to 5,000 BC and the antlers of a Giant Red Deer excavated near Kells which date back to 11,000 BC.
Ar an 9 Meán Fomhair thaisteal scoláirí ón dara bliain, rang gaeilge agus teagascóra de chuid Ms. Ní Dhuinn, beirt ón séú bliain agus Ms.O’Connell go dtí stiúideo RTÉ i nDomhnach Broc. Tugadh cuireadh dúinn a bheith i láthair sa lucht féachana don chlár teilifíse ‘Junior Eurovision’ a bheidh ar siúl ar TG4.
Bhí an-spraoi ag na cailíní ar an turas agus ní raibh siad díreach istigh san fhoirgneamh nuair a bhuail siad leis an láithreoir nuachta Brian Dobson. Sa stiúideo ansin, chonaic na cailíní an bealach ina gcuirtear clár teilifíse le chéile agus bhuail siad leis an bhfoireann léiriúcháin. Chonaic siad saol na gaeilge ar bhealach nua-aimseartha, taobh amuigh den seomra ranga.
Bhuail na cailíní leis an láithreoir Eoghan Mac Diarmada agus na moltóirí Bryan Kennedy agus Stiofáin ó Fearail. Chan Stiofáin, atá mar amhránaí leis an ngrúpa aitheanta ó Choláiste Lurgan ‘Seo Linn’, amhrán leo sa seomra glas agus bhí an-spraoi acu. Ba dheis iontach í do an scoláirí sult agus taitnemah a bhaint as an ngaeilge, lena gcairde taobh amuigh den scoil. Beidh an clár ar siúl ar an 1 Samhain ar TG4. Bí ag féachaint agus seans go mbeidh aithne agat ar cúpla duine sa lucht féachana!
On the 9th of September a group of second year students and two students from 6th year travelled to RTÉ studios in Donnybrook. The students were invited to be part of the audience for the tv programme ‘Junior Eurovision’, that will air on TG4.
The students only stepped inside the television building when they met news reporter Bryan Dobson. When they were settled in studio, the students were able to clearly see the way a tv programme is filmed and put together. They also saw the Irish language being used in a modern way, outside of the classroom.
The group met with the presenter Eoghan McDermott and judges Bryan Kennedy and Stiofán Ó Fearail. Stiofán from the well known Coláiste Lurgan group ‘Seo Linn’, sang a song with the girls in the green room and the students had great fun. The trip was an excellent opportunity for the students to enjoy the Irish language, with their classmates outside of school. Tune in to TG4 On the 1stof November and you might see a few familiar faces in the audience!
